Mwaliko

Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 September 2026

Agreement

These terms apply when you use Mwaliko (“the service”) at mwaliko.app or through our mobile apps. By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

We may update these terms. Material changes will be posted here with a revised date, and continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.

Your account

  • You need a valid phone number to sign up, and you are responsible for keeping your PIN confidential. Activity under your account is treated as yours.
  • One person or organisation per account. Do not share credentials or resell access.
  • You must be old enough to enter a contract in your country of residence.
  • We may suspend an account that breaches these terms. Where the breach is not serious we will normally contact you first.

Guest data and consent

When you upload a guest list, those phone numbers belong to real people who did not sign up to Mwaliko themselves. This is the most important obligation in these terms:

  • You confirm you have a lawful basis to hold your guests’ contact details and to send them messages about your event.
  • You are the controller of your guest list. We process it on your instructions — to send the messages you ask us to send, record RSVPs, and check guests in.
  • Do not upload lists you bought, scraped, or collected for an unrelated purpose.
  • If a guest asks you to stop contacting them, stop. If a guest contacts us directly, we will refer them to you and may act ourselves where the law requires it.

What we do with personal information is described in our Privacy Policy.

Acceptable use

Mwaliko is for event invitations and event-related messages. Do not use it to:

  • send marketing, promotional or political bulk messages, or anything unrelated to an event you are hosting;
  • send content that is unlawful, harassing, deceptive, or that impersonates someone else;
  • solicit contributions for a cause you are not genuinely raising funds for, or misrepresent where michango contributions go;
  • attempt to circumvent credit metering, rate limits, or access another host’s data;
  • automate or resell the service without our written agreement.

Bulk messaging is heavily regulated and our ability to deliver messages depends on our standing with mobile networks and WhatsApp. Misuse puts every other host at risk, so we suspend accounts for it without notice and without refund.

Credits and payment

  • Sending costs credits, bought in advance in Tanzanian shillings. The price per SMS and per WhatsApp message is shown in the app before you send.
  • Credits are deducted per message actually submitted to the provider, per recipient phone number. A message we submit and the network fails to deliver is still charged, because we are charged for it.
  • Credits have no cash value, are not transferable between accounts, and are not redeemable for money.
  • Top-ups are generally non-refundable. If credits were deducted because of a fault on our side, contact us and we will restore them.
  • Prices can change. Credits you have already bought keep the rate you paid.

Michango contributions

Where you collect contributions, the money moves between your contributors and the mobile-money or bank account you nominate, through our payment provider. We are not a bank, we do not hold your contributions, and we are not party to any arrangement between you and your contributors.

You are responsible for how contributions are used and for any tax or reporting obligation that follows. Disputes about a contribution are between you and the contributor.

Message delivery

We send through third-party networks and platforms. We cannot guarantee that a message arrives, when it arrives, or that a recipient’s device or network will accept it. Delivery reports we show come from those providers and can be incomplete or delayed.

Plan around this for time-critical events: send early, and use the delivery and RSVP views to follow up rather than assuming everyone received a message.

Availability

We aim to keep Mwaliko available, but the service is provided as is. We may take it down for maintenance, and we may change or discontinue features. We will give reasonable notice of a change that materially reduces what you have paid for.

Your content

Your events, guest lists, card designs and messages remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service — to store your content, render your cards, and transmit your messages to the recipients you choose.

You can delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes your events, guest lists and designs; we keep records we are required to keep, such as payment records, for as long as the law requires.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost attendance, lost contributions, or the consequences of a message that did not arrive.

Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania, and the courts of Tanzania have jurisdiction over any dispute. Please contact us first — most things are resolved faster that way.
